In 1997 Charlie and Maureen weren't set up to create daily diaries. They produced thousands of photographs, stacks of notes, and many paintings... But all the old fashioned way. What we have online is primarily material from their annual report for that year. Even though it doesn't have the depth of 1998's diary, it's pretty fascinating.
Ian Herring of Parallax Films, Inc., Vancouver, in association with Cicada Productions, England and Amya Distributions, Paris, has produced a film on Maureen & Charlie in 1997. It profiles their work with orphaned cubs and co-existence with bears. The documentary "Walking With Giants -- Grizzlies Of Siberia" will be shown in the US on February 14th, 1999 on PBS's "Nature".
